📍Athens, Greece 🇬🇷
It was finally time to see what all the hype about Greece was about. Turns out, it’s not a bad place to spend some time.
It was finally time to see what all the hype about Greece was about. Turns out, it’s not a bad place to spend some time.
Day 1: We had a lot to see in a short amount of time, so we scheduled our flight to Santorini with a long (24 hour) layover in Athens to check a few things off J’s bucket list. We arrived to Athens at about 2 pm and took the train to Amalia Hotel to put our bags down. We knew we only had one day so it was go time. Somehow, we made it to just about every ruin (in what felt like all of Europe) and we didn’t leave many of the tourist spots unseen.
First stop: Temple of Olympian Zeus and Hadrian’s Arch. Gonna be honest here…this stop was slightly underwhelming but it meant it can only get better from here.
Stop 2: Acropolis (including the Parthenon). Now we’re talking.
Sweating and determined, we were just getting started. Next stop: Roman Agora.
Then the Ancient Agora (they could really make these names a little less similar but here we are).
After exploring the major ruin spots, we ventured to Anafiotika which is an art district in the area with thin streets and lots of stairs.
At this point we are about 21,000 steps in for the day and have not eaten. If you have spent more than 3 hours with me before, you know very well I am a bit unpleasant when hungry. So we go find food, or attempt to at least. The 3 restaurants we really wanted to try were all full. So we quickly did a Google search and found a highly rated restaurant called Ella.
24,000 steps later, it is time to get some sleep before our flight to Santorini.
