📍Santorini & Mykonos, Greece 🇬🇷
Good for the memories, not for the bank account!
Day 1: We made it to Santorini and, thanks to my boss, we had some amazing suggestions. Shout out to Moe. (Shameless plug: if you need a mortgage, use Loansteady. You won’t regret it!)
We checked into our amazing villa (Areos Luxury Suites) for the night, found a little Smart car to rent, and, you guessed it, found food.
Fueled and excited about our Santorini home, we were in great moods and ready to explore! First stop was the red sand beach (Akrotiri) and it was truly unlike any other beach I’ve seen. We swam around for a little and then hiked back to the car for the next beach. We were on a mission to see as much as we could in the short time we had.
We then went to the black sand beach (Perissa), which, although beautiful, has nothing on Akrotiri (in our opinion). We enjoyed some time at the beach and then I did something I haven’t done in just about the whole trip…
…I brushed and styled my hair! 💁🏼♀️ I mean, I only had one sunset night in Santorini and had to make the best of it.
We finished getting ready and drove to Oia, or as I thought it was called, “the famous area in Santorini where the white buildings are,” for the sunset and classic picture. PSA: Get. There. Early. We thought 30 minutes before sunset would be enough time. We were not the only ones with this thought and we almost missed the sunset. Remember, I brushed my hair for this so I would’ve been extra mad. Luckily, our tiny car fit into a questionable parking spot and we briskly walked to a place to watch the sunset. Crisis averted.
We walked through the town and once we found our car, we headed to Anemoloos for a late night dinner. (Another PSA: a lot of the streets look very similar; dropping a pin isn’t the worst idea.)
Day 2: Our cute villa had breakfast delivered to our rooms in these little boxes which started the day off right.
We dropped off our fun sized car at the port and waited for the ferry to Mykonos. The line was absolute mayhem, but, amongst the chaos, we met some friends! Since our ferry was delayed, we ended up talking to a couple on their honeymoon for a long time. We didn’t exactly know how the ferry worked as it was our first time taking it, but apparently there are seats assigned…and some are better than others. Our friends had the better seats and we, the peasants, sat in the back sweating, like a lot. J being J decide to go explore and found our friends in the fancy area. He figured out that the people next to them had moved seats and before ya know it, we were reclining in luxury and AC. ❄️🆒
We hadn’t booked a place to stay in Mykonos so when we got off the ferry, we rode the public bus to the downtown area, Fabrika, had some bao buns, and looked up places to stay. We found a great apartment (Anastasia’s Visage) walking distance from everything we wanted to do, so we booked it and checked in. J had to work a little, I had to relax a little (hard life I live), and then it was time for a drink and watching the sunset. The sunset…HOLY. Best sunset I have ever seen. Drinks…HOLY. Most expensive drink I have ever drank.
We had specifically gone to Mykonos to party. Problem: parties start at 2 am. Let it be known that at 2 am I am either in deep REM sleep, waking up for a middle of the night pee, or occasionally eating late night pizza after a night out, but not getting ready to start partying. (J on the other hand thrives on this timeline. Weird.)
Anyway, if you have read up to now, you know we have been on the go non-stop and ya girl needed sleep. 😴 We had plans to hang out with our honeymoon ferry friends that night and at 9:30 pm I told J I was going to take a “quick” nap. Famous last words. I got a text saying they were too full (at that moment I knew they were gonna be in my friend circle) and that was it for me. Our first party island night turned into 11 hours of sleep for me. No regrets.
J, on the other hand, went and had himself a dinner, did a lap around town, and even checked out a few clubs to decide where he wanted to bring us the next night.
Day 3: Per usual, food first. We ordered a gyro plate for 2 at Souvlaki Story and I believe when they say for 2 they meant two families. It was massive. We ate most of it to fuel our day at Paradise Beach (the party beach).
We took the bus there and spent the day having a few drinks, dancing, and enjoying the beach. Our plans with the honeymooners were postponed until the night, so we made our way back to the hotel to shower, have dinner, and get ready. We had dinner where J went the night before (To Maereio) because he raved about his meal. The staff remembered him and was so excited to see him again.
We finished dinner around 11 pm and met up with the honeymooners. We had drinks at our apartment until 3 am (again, REM time) and then decided to see what the clubs were all about. We were out for a bit, danced, laughed, drank tequila, and then decided it was time for a late night gyro. The restaurant happened to be the same place we had lunch at (this time we knew to share a one person meal). The place was open until 6 am! Blew my mind.
We finally went to bed around 5 am and had to check out by 11. Oof!
Bloopers 🤪😳
