📍London, England, Part III 🏴 🇬🇧
A short and unexpected trip to London that turned out to be pretty fun!
After some trains and busses we arrived at the Hampton by the airport to prepare for our early flight. Our flights were booked, hotels paid for, and we had a plan of how to spend 10 days in Morocco. J’s immune system, on the other hand, had other plans.
It was about 12 hours before we were supposed to board the flight and I saw the look in J’s face. Morocco was not about to happen and he didn’t want to have to break the news to me. He made the final call he didn’t feel up to making the trip. I called my mom, my travel friends, and just about everyone I knew to see if anyone was up for a random trip with me…somehow no one was available to take a very last minute trip to Africa with me. I thought about going alone, but J and my mom preferred I did not do that. We had already spent some a lot of time in England, but we only had a few days left in the Schengen Area and already had plans for the last days. Back to the drawing board.
After exploring just about every travel option possible, we compromised and made the decision to stay in London for a few days and go to our next destination early. J could recover and once he felt better we would be able to visit a place we originally didn’t have time for (see the next blog). It wasn’t the original plan, but things worked out nicely.
…and if anyone wants to take a trip to Morocco, I have an itinerary ready for use.
Anyway, because we had spent time in England and we planned to come back to London for a week before going home, a lot of our time was spent relaxing. So, I’m summarizing our five days below instead of breaking it down day by day.
We stayed in Notting Hill for the first few nights. We walked around the really cute area we stayed in, ate at Market Thai, Akoya, Grind, and found a very good acai bowl from Acai Verao Notting Hill. Important part of our Euro trip: J decided to watch Friends (all 10 seasons) from start to finish. While he wasn’t feeling well, a lot of our time was dedicated to making a large dent in the first few seasons of the best show.
The last few nights in London we stayed at the Double Tree in Greenwich, which was great…for every aspect of my life except my hips. Every time we walked in they gave us the most delicious Double Tree chocolate chip cookies and I couldn’t stop. 🍪
J knew I was disappointed we didn’t get to go to Morocco so he decided to make it up to me in the best possible way: a country concert!! He still wasn’t feeling 100% (and he happens to not like country music…like at all) so he my friend Megan and I tickets to go see Thomas Rhett who was performing in London!
Jordan Davis opened, Niall Horan made a surprise guest appearance, and, just like that, I forgot Morocco was even a country. Thanks J!!!
Side note, I was shocked to see so many country fans in London. When I asked a local if a lot of English people were country fans he said, “Oh no, you just saw every country fan and more in that arena.” Fair to say I think he may be right on that assumption. Either way, the concert was amazing and the fans knew their country.
J was finally feeling better and my friend had told me to check out a Korean fried chicken place she had been to. When someone highly recommends food, we run, not walk, to the restaurant as quickly as possible and this was no exception. J, our friend Jade, and I went to the Smoking Goat and had ourselves some chicken. It was perfect for 2/3 of us. I don’t really recommend bringing a friend that doesn’t eat chicken to a fried chicken restaurant (my bad, sorry Jade!😳).
We ended our day and time in London with a fun, boozy mini golf course, which is pretty popular in the city. Super important to note: I did, in fact, win and I will brag about this for the rest of…forever.
Things didn’t go as we originally thought they would, but I’d say we still had a pretty good time!
